About Becky Thorn
My name is Becky Thorn. I am a forty something part time primary school teacher and an accidental author. I have a husband and two children. I cook as many meals as possible from scratch for my family so I am always on the receiving end of honest and vocal criticism when I get it wrong.
In March 2007 I appeared on “Masterchef goes large” as a guest amateur restaurant critic. I won this chance by writing a short critique of a favourite meal. I have also designed a meal for the Heinz Weight Watchers range which was then made and sold nationally.
My children cannot believe you had to eat liver and bacon at school, and my husband can’t believe I had seconds. I did because that got me front of the queue for puddings, somewhere you will still find me today. I am sure the others in the pudding queue bought this book when it was published as it has now sold out. A new format reprint is coming soon.
My most recent book is “Movie Dinners” published by Portico (Anova)in September 2010. How to mix a Sex in the City cosmopolitan, boil a bunny or even make that sandwich from “When Harry met Sally”

A Taste of Israel
Come and experience one of the most diverse cuisines in the world as three of Tel Aviv’s most promising chefs serve up a feast for you to re-create at home.
Israeli gastronomy is a melting pot of influences from across the centuries: combining the rich meats enjoyed by the Bedouin tribes, the vibrant freshness of the Mediterranean and the exotic spices of the Arabian peninsula. In creating their menus our chefs will draw upon their own diverse backgrounds, using simple, high quality ingredients.
To complement their creations, the highly-attuned nose of John Weiss, chief sommelier at Kedem Europe has specially selected Israeli wine pairings to set off each dish.
Our sommelier will be on hand to answer your questions, while the chefs will also be available to share cooking tips. They will also explain how they were brought together through WIZO, a charitable initiative designed to help disadvantaged people in Israel through vocational training.
If that were not enough, you will be given a goody bag containing recipes from the evening, and a bottle of wine.
B’shalom and b’teyavon! (in peace and good appetite)
