Fanny – my sour dough starter

She’s alive, she is living and breathing so, a little like Frankenstein, I had to name her. She is called Fanny, no tittering at the back! She is called Fanny for a very good reason. This sour dough starter is acerbic, more than a little temperamental but bloody good fun to cook with, so naming her after Ms Fanny Craddock seemed the only thing to do.

Now I need your help. Tomorrow I will be baking a loaf, I’ll make the sponge this evening and leave it to ferment overnight and then in the morning I’ll create the dough proper and it can prove during the day. Later I’ll bake the loaf so we can all get that glorious indigestion that comes from eating warm, just baked bread with slabs of butter and possibly a spoonful of bramble jelly perched on top. What else can you suggest I make, flatbreads, crumpets, English muffins? Point me in the direction of any recipes on your blogs and I’ll gladly add a link.
